Citywide’s Matt Williams has been appointed to the Board of Arboriculture Australia, supporting continued focus on professional standards, risk-based tree management and the future direction of the arboriculture sector.
Arboriculture Australia is the national peak body for arborists and tree care contractors, urban forestry workers and utility vegetation managers across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Matt brings more than 30 years’ experience across arboriculture, open space and municipal service delivery, including a strong practical understanding of the challenges councils and service providers face in managing trees across high-use public spaces.
“Urban tree management continues to evolve, and it is important that service providers stay close to the standards, training and systems that help improve safety, consistency and long-term asset care. Being part of these industry discussions provides valuable insight into the developments shaping arboriculture across Australia, and helps us continue supporting our clients with practical, informed and responsive service delivery.” said Matt.
At a recent Arboriculture Australia planning day, several key industry focus areas were highlighted, including the:
• MIS 5 Series
• Review and rollout of e-versions, the National Verification System
• AANZAA Risk Method Training
These initiatives are aimed at strengthening consistency, credibility and competency across the profession, while supporting clearer approaches to tree risk assessment and asset management.
Citywide has maintained a long relationship with Arboriculture Australia, supporting industry initiatives focused on minimum standards, professional development, workforce capability and the continued recognition of arboriculture as a skilled and essential sector.
Williams said the ongoing development of industry frameworks is increasingly important as councils and communities place greater focus on urban forest canopy, public safety, climate resilience and the long-term value of green infrastructure.
Congratulations Matt on this appointment and your ongoing contribution to safer, better-managed urban forests.
