CITYWIDE will work through its renewed sponsorship of Arboriculture Australia in 2023 to continue rallying industry-wide collaboration on identifying solutions to the nationwide skills shortages in the tree care sector.
2022 proved to a busy year with the launch of our campaign, Arborists Don't Grow on Trees, at the industry's annual conference in May and culminated in a double award win: securing the Industry Collaboration category award at both the Victorian Training Awards and subsequently the Australian Training Awards .
Arboriculture Australia (Arb Aus) is the national peak body for arborists and tree care contractors, urban forestry workers and utility vegetation managers across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
“Addressing the nationwide skills shortage remains our top priority,” Matt Williams, GM - Melbourne Contracts at Citywide, said.
"A big step in this process is lifting the visibility of the industry, by working with industry peers and government stakeholders and educating the community on the world of trees and the lifelong employment opportunities it offers."
Williams said the urgency to tackle the skills shortage could not be overstated, given the increasing investment in green infrastructure by governments of all levels, leading to the rapid expansion of urban forest canopy coverage.
Citywide has maintained a long partnership with Arb Aus, supporting the development of initiatives, including minimum industry standards, industry licencing and efforts to develop new approaches to recruiting arborists and tree care workers.Links:
