Civil infrastructure projects in Melbourne’s western suburbs will get a boost from the expansion of the Citywide North Melbourne Asphalt Plant Joint Venture operations, which is 50 per cent owned by Citywide.

The Joint Venture last week secured Development Approval from the City of Wyndham to construct a second asphalt plant, with an anticipated commissioning expected in late 2019.

“This expansion decision reflects the strong operating and financial performance of the Citywide North Melbourne Asphalt Joint Venture, supported by confidence in the continued growth of Melbourne’s western region,” Citywide CEO Chris Campbell said today.

“This opportunity is in line with delivering our Vision 2025 and consistent with Citywide’s strategy of being open to growth through alliances and joint ventures.”

In 2015, Citywide entered into a joint venture with the company’s existing Asphalt operation in North Melbourne.

Since then, the Joint Venture has grown through serving a wide range of municipal and civil construction customers across the metropolitan Melbourne region.

Italian firm Marini will supply the new plant, which will be imported and installed at Laverton in the City of Wyndham municipality.

It is expected numerous jobs will be created by the plant through initial civil works to prepare the site, the plant’s operations and ongoing employment through increased patronage of the new facility.
