CITYWIDE’s Asphalt Plant JV has taken another step towards greater sustainability after signing on as a foundation partner of the second Melbourne Renewable Energy Project.

It comes as our second asphalt plant being built at Laverton nears completion, with an expected operational start date of early January.

Building on the success and insights of MREP1 - of which the Citywide Group was one of 14 foundation entities - Citywide Asphalt will join our JV partner Fulton Hogan, RMIT University, Deakin University, Cbus Property, ISPT Property and Mondelez International, to collectively purchase approximately 113GWh of renewable electricity annually: enough to power the equivalent of more than 25,000 Melbourne households for a year.

The second Melbourne Renewable Energy Project tender was released on 22 November 2019. The tender is seeking supply of renewable energy from a new or existing generator within Victoria for up to 10 years.

The call for response to the tender is the first in a series of key project milestones that will take place.

Once the winning tender is selected, each member of the purchasing group will enter into a separate long term electricity supply contact for renewable energy.
