The Melbourne Renewable Energy Project (MREP) has won another sustainability gong - this time, snaring the CitySwitch National Partnership of the Year 2018 award.

Citywide is a foundation partner of the MREP, an Australian-first which unites 14 leading universities, cultural institutions, Councils and corporations that will source renewable energy from a 80MW wind farm in western Victoria.

The project's development has been led by our parent and shareholder the City of Melbourne.

The CitySwitch award follows similar success last month when the project landed a prestigious Victorian Premier's Sustainability Award (Government category).

The MREP was announced late last year and involves the construction and operation by Pacific Hydro of 39 wind turbines at the Crowlands Wind Farm near the township of Ararat.

Once built, the MREP consortium will purchase 88 GWh of energy, equivalent to powering more than 17,000 households in Melbourne for a year.

This will abate 96,800 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere each year, equivalent to taking more than 22,000 cars off the road. 

Other consortium members include: City of Port Phillip, Moreland City Council, City of Yarra, Bank Australia, NextDC, Australia Post, NAB, RMIT, University of Melbourne, Federation Square, Zoos Victoria and the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
